As workers in Nigeria observe today as the International Workers’ Day, a former Chairman of Michael Imodu Institute of Labour Studies, Ilorin, Chief Shuaib Oyedokun has stressed the need for Nigerian workers to be relentless in their advocacy while honouring labour activists who defended workers rights and their dignity against all odds.

In his message to workers on this year’s May Day ,Chief Oyedokun stated that the pioneering efforts of the crusaders for workers’ rights should not be forgotten, adding that their struggles, sacrifices and triumphs for the interest of the working class deserve to be celebrated.

” We honour the pioneers who fought for workers’ rights and dignity,” he remarked.

Chief Oyedokun also stressed the importance of safe-working conditions and social justice for workers and charged that the Nigerian workers should continue to advocate for a more equitable society where labour is valued and respected.

He called on both government and labour for their joint active participation and support towards repositioning Michael Imodu Institute of Labour Studies so that facilities at the labour premier institute would be upgraded towards its mandate to equip students in the best international labour practice while enhancing better training programmes of the institute.

Chief Oyedokun who believed that an improved government, labour relationship is in the overall interest of the country, pointed out that labour activists and unions should work on fostering mutual understanding with governments as it is under this peaceful atmosphere would the welfare of the people be best served and protected.
