FIFA WCQ: Consul Urges Eagles To Finish Job
Nigeria`s Consul-General (CG) in South Africa Godwin Adama has urged the Super Eagles to be focused and dedicated in their remaining World Cup qualifying matches.
Nigeria leads group B, tagged group of death, with 10 points from four matches and are closely followed by Zambia with seven points.
Adama in Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday said that Nigerians in that country were glad about the impressing outings of the Eagles in the qualifiers.
“Nigerians in South Africa were happy with the two matches played against Cameroon at Uyo and Yaounde. We are very optimistic that the Eagles will get the World Cup ticket.
“ We urge them to finish the job. They should remain focused, dedicated and get the ticket,” he said.
Adama said that sports had been an avenue for creating unity in the country, stressing that the performances of the Eagles had brought joy to Nigerians.
“ My advice to the Eagles is not to be over confident. The victories will create greater unity in the country because sports has been one of our unifying factors.
“ When Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup, our people will be glad and be preparing to watch their matches in Russia.”
The CG commended President Muhammadu Buhari for motivating sportsmen and women in the country.
He expressed delight that the President motivated the female basketball national team, D`Tigress with N1million each for winning the Afro basketball tournament in Mali and N20 million to the Eagles for winning Cameroon.
Adama said that the mission would provide support to the team when they play South Africa next year for the 2019 AFCON qualifier.
“ We will give the Eagles necessary support when they play South Africa next year.”
