Yahoo Boys Hindering Foreign Investment In Nigeria – EFCC Chair
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has blamed youth involvement in internet fraud for damaging Nigeria’s image and discouraging foreign investment in the country.
The anti-graft chief made the statement on Monday through the Acting Zonal Director of the Benin Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC 1, Effa I. Okim, during an event at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, Delta State.
He said, “The menace of internet fraud among our youth is pervasive and it is a stain on us as a people and as a nation. They have embraced this crime to the detriment of their future and the image of the nation.”
Olukoyede listed the consequences of cybercrime to include the destruction of Nigeria’s image, deterrence of foreign investment, reduced investor confidence, stifling of youth creativity, and the collapse of industries.
He urged young people to abandon cybercrime, describing Nigerian youth as “vibrant, forward-looking, resilient, creative, intelligent,” and capable of excelling globally.
