Your Approval Of Four Tourists Site For Upgrade An Afterthought – Osun APC Slams Adeleke
- Accuses Governor of Nepotism, Wasteful Spending
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has stated that the approval of some historical tourist sites in the state by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke was a cover-up for the controversial award of N678 million to reconstruct the Sango-Timi Shrine in Ede.
It would be recalled that the reconstruction of the Sango-Timi Shrine and Groove at the Timi’s Palace was approved by Governor Adeleke, as stated on the official website of the state government.
Following the condemnation that trailed the approval of the project, the state government on Wednesday announced that it would develop some tourist sites in the state.
Among the first set of approved sites are the Ifá Agbaye Temple at Ile-Ife, the Iwude Ijesa project, the Sango Timi Shrine, and the Osun Osogbo shrine.
The APC, while reacting to the state government’s announcement in a statement by the party’s director of media and information, Kola Olabisi, accused Adeleke of nepotism, adding that the governor was concentrating development efforts in his hometown of Ede at the expense of other major towns in the state.
The statement said Adeleke was insulting the sensibilities of the people of this state, adding that the approval of the tourist site is a mere product of an afterthought.
The APC questioned why the state government would prioritize a project which has no economic value to Osun people.
It added that the amount allocated to the shrine project is almost double the ₦376 million released by the government as Education Subsidy in the first half of the year.
The statement read in part, “Why was it that it was after the governor’s award of the N678 million contract for the construction of the Sango Shrine in his town received a wide condemnation that he thought of naming other historical tourist attraction sites across the state to be developed in phases?
“The ploy has refused to fly because it is a glaring insult to the sensibility of the people of this state, as it is a mere product of an afterthought skillfully devised to deceive the ever-vigilant and forward-looking people of the state.
“The development has further raised questions about the fiscal priorities of the Osun State Government and fairness in governance as there is no cogent reason under the sun why a serious government would opt for the prioritization of a project which has no economic value or advantage for either the people of the ancient town in particular or the state in general.”
“Anyone who is in abundant possession of conscience has a genuine reason to be visibly worried that the amount allocated to this shrine project is almost double the ₦376 million released by the government as Education Subsidy in the first half of the year, as shown on page 42 of the state’s Budget Implementation Report for the second quarter of 2025.
“Governor Adeleke has repeatedly been accused of concentrating development efforts in his hometown of Ede, often at the expense of other major towns. In 2025 alone, seven road projects, valued at over ₦70 billion, have been awarded for dualisation in Ede.
“Meanwhile, numerous infrastructure projects in other towns such as Ife, Osogbo, and Ilesa remain uncompleted, nearly two years after being awarded,” the statement added.
