The Minister of Youth, Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim, ordered the payment of 10 million naira twice to one person as money to invite 50 youths to Tinubu’s 1st anniversary, Osun Defender gathered.
The Minister, according to sources at the Ministry, made the decision without carrying others along.
The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) had reported how the ministry made the two payments to one Dahiru Jibril on May 25, 2023, for the same purpose.
According to FIJ, the description for each payment reads, “Being payment for invitation of 50 youths from 36 states of the federation to participate in the celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first year anniversary at the presidential villa.”
A source in the ministry who spoke with Osun Defender under condition of anonymity because she was not authorised to speak on the issue, said the Minister for State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, refused to participate in the entire process.
The source noted that Ibrahim sent an invitation to Olawande as a special guest of honour for the programme which he declined as he was not carried along on the matter.
She said, “The matter is already generating issues in the ministry. The minister took the decision to invite the 50 people without carrying anyone along.
“The worst part is that she didn’t inform the Minister of State for Youth Development about the matter because she felt she was in charge. She only sent a letter of invitation to Olawande requesting him to be a special guest at the program but the letter was declined by the Minister of State, who refused to attend the event.”
As at the time of publishing this story, the Ministry is yet to comment on the controversy surrounding the payment of public funds into the account of the said Dahiru Jibril.
