Zamfara Govt. Donates N60m To Families Of Victims Of The Gusau Attack

The Zamfara State Government has donated N60 million to families of victims of the attack on Tudun-Maijatau and Takoka villages in Gusau Local Government Area which occurred last week.

Recall that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that unknown gunmen last week attacked the communities, killing 16 persons, injuring many others, while setting several houses ablaze.

The Speaker of the State Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji disclosed the donation on Tuesday while presenting the donations of cash to the families of the deceased and other victims of the attack at the palace of Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello.

Rikiji, who is the Chairman of the State Damage Assessment and Relief Committee, described the incessant killings in the state as a matter of monumental concern.

He said Gov. Abdula’ziz Yari released N60 million to support the victims of the attacks in the two villages.

“We have the record of 16 deaths and 43 burnt houses and many injured persons as a result of the attack.

“We are presenting N500,000 to families of each deceased persons and those whose houses were destroyed by the bandits will also be given N500,000 each.

“We recorded about 8,600 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) as a result of the attack in the two villages.

“My committee on behalf of the State Government had taken care of all the food, medicament and other support to the IDPs”, he said.

The Speaker, who also gave assurance of the State Government’s commitment to improve security in the state, urged the communities to support government with prayers.

He said the government, in collaboration with security agencies, was making serious efforts to end the ugly trend.

In his remark, the Emir of Gusau thanked the State Government for the gesture and urged them to utilise the money for the purpose it was given.

The monarch urged people of the State to continue prayers and always report suspicious persons and movement to the authorities.

Earlier, the chairman of Gusau Local Government council, Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko, urged the victims to consider the incident as a test from Allah.

Tanko, however, appealed for additional security personnel in the areas.
