Lagos LG Poll: LASIEC Officials, Voting Materials Missing in Several Polling Units
The Lagos State local government election on Saturday was marred by widespread complaints over the absence of electoral officers and materials in many polling units across the state.
According to field reports obtained by SaharaReporters, several areas did not receive LASIEC officials or election materials as of the time voting was supposed to commence.
In Mende, Maryland, residents were still waiting for officials, while no voting activity was reported in Ajeromi Ifelodun and Ibafon.
Eyewitnesses said there were no police officers, no voters’ register, and no accreditation at the affected locations.
An election agent in Ajeromi expressed frustration: “I was told distribution of materials would start by 3am. I was there since then, and up till now, they’re just sharing them. In my ward, there are no Labour Party or PDP councillors, only APC and AAC.”
He added, “We won’t accept any thumbprinted ballot paper. Voting was meant to start at 8am, but they arrived by 10am. We need voters’ register and accreditation before voting can begin.”
The election is to usher in new local government leaders across the state.
