Good Riddance To Bad Rubbish — Wike’s Aide Slams Atiku Over PDP Exit
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Adviser on Public Communications to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has mocked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a Channels TV interview, Olayinka said Atiku is fixated on becoming Nigeria’s president, describing his ambition as unhealthy.
“The only thing that interests Atiku Abubakar is to become Nigeria’s president,” he said.
“I’m beginning to wonder whether a doctor prescribed ‘presidency’ for him, and if he doesn’t become president, something will happen to him.”
Olayinka described Atiku’s exit from the PDP as a welcome development, blaming him for the internal collapse of the opposition party.
“Good riddance to bad rubbish. Today, the PDP has been so destroyed and damaged by this one man, Atiku Abubakar, who is now gone,” he said.
He warned that Atiku should not be allowed back into the PDP after what he called a predictable failure of his next political move.
“When highly spirited members of the party come together to rebuild the party, Atiku should not come back after he has failed in his new political journey because I know he is going to fail,” Olayinka added.
Also reacting, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, criticised the timing of Atiku’s resignation.
In a post on X, Keyamo accused the former Vice President of being insensitive by releasing his resignation letter shortly after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Your Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, whilst I acknowledge that it is within your constitutional right to change political parties at anytime you may wish, however, releasing your letter of resignation from the PDP during this week of the mourning of our immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, is clearly an attempt to draw the spotlight away from such a solemn occasion and direct it on yourself,” Keyamo wrote.
“With the greatest respect to you, this clearly demonstrates that your obsession with your perennial presidential ambition knows no sympathy or empathy.”
