Lakurawa bandits on Tuesday afternoon ambushed the convoy of Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, the Member representing Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency in the Niger State House of Representatives, killing a soldier and injuring several others.
The attack, which took place along the Lumma–Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area, also saw the assailants vandalise at least 11 vehicles in the convoy.
The lawmaker was travelling to Babanna town for an official engagement when the heavily armed bandits lying in wait opened fire between 1pm and 2pm, catching his security team and aides by surprise.
Sources told SaharaReporters that one soldier was killed on the spot, while about eight others sustained varying injuries.
The wounded were rushed to the General Hospital, New Bussa, for treatment.

At least four of Damisa’s supporters were also hit by stray bullets, though none reportedly lost their lives.
All the damaged vehicles have been evacuated from the scene. Despite the attack, Damisa escaped unharmed thanks to the swift action of his security escorts and reinforcement from troops at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babanna.
The arrival of the troops led to a fierce gunfight, forcing the bandits to retreat into the forest.
