One suspect, whose identity could not be immediately confirmed, has been arrested by the Osun State Police Command in connection with the abduction of a Fulani herdsman based in Ijebu Jesa, Osun State, named Yahaya Sulaiman.

The victim has, however, regained freedom after payment of an undisclosed amount as ransom.

It would be recalled that some gunmen on Monday evening abducted Sulaiman and demanded a sum of N70million in ransom before his release.

Sources in the area said Sulaimon must have been targeted by the perpetrators.

A security source in Ijebu Jesa, who pleaded anonymity since he was not authorised to comment, told The Punch that Sulaiman was released on Thursday after the abductors had collected an undisclosed amount as ransom.

“He was released on Thursday. They (abductors) collected huge amount of money as ransom before they released him. One of the perpetrators was arrested.

“They found his firearms and ammunition. He has been taken to Osogbo. He is with the police in Osogbo. Sulaiman was immediately taken to the hospital when he was freed,” he said.

When contacted for confirmation, Osun Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said Sulaiman was “rescued by the police, adding that a “suspect arrested in connection with the incident is with the police.”
