LG Crisis: Osun Govt Writes AIG, Seeks Police Security For Resumption Of Elected PDP Council Officials

Osun State Government has written the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI, requesting security for council chairmen elected under the Peoples Democratic Party and local government staff to enable smooth resumption at council secretariats across the state.

The request was made in a letter dated June 18, 2026, by MUSIBAU ADETUNBI (SAN) & Co. and signed by Oluwabusola Oluwaniyi on behalf of Osun State Government and Osun State Local Government Councils.

The letter referenced a Federal High Court judgment delivered in Osogbo on Monday, June 15, 2026, by Hon. Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi, which dismissed the tenure elongation suit filed by sacked APC council chairmen who had occupied LG secretariats.

According to the letter, the sacked chairmen had asked the court to allow them remain in office, void the Feb 22, 2025 LG election, invalidate the oath of office of the elected chairmen, restrain their removal from secretariats, and compel police to continue providing them security.

“All the reliefs specifically sought by them were expressly refused by the court and their Originating Summons dismissed in its entirety,” the letter stated.

The solicitors added that no court has issued any order staying the judgment.

“We must add that there has not been any order by any court staying the decision or granting any injunction against the implementation of the judgment, as filing of an appeal or an application for stay is not itself an order of court to restrain implementation of the judgment.

“Against the background of the foregoing, we hereby implore you to act accordingly by removing the illegal occupiers and ensuring safe resumption of duties of the duly elected officials,” the letter read.
