Osun LGAs Under Control Of APC Despite Court Judgment
The All Progressives Congress (APC) elected chairmen have continued to control the affairs of all the Local Government secretariats in Osun State despite the recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, which declared their tenure expired.
Also, councillors elected on the platform of the APC and other appointed political office holders, including Special Advisers, Executive Assistants and Supervisors appointed by the APC elected chairmen are in control of all the 30 Local Government Areas and Area Office in the state.
These findings were in contravention of the court judgment delivered by Justice Funmilola Dem Ajayi of the Osogbo division of the Federal High Court, which held that the tenure of the chairmen and councilors elected on the platform of the APC ended in October 2025.
The imbroglio surrounding local government administration in the state has been on for months and the situation had led to the loss of lives of people, including the former Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Hon Remi Abass.
Recently, the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo held that the tenure of the APC chairmen and councilors ended in October, 2025.
However, the chairmen and councilors have continued to operate in the Local Government secretariats as “Chief Operating/Financial Officers”.
Also, there are allegations that the APC elected chairmen are engaging in financial transactions on behalf of their various local governments with the account domiciled at the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
It was gathered that the Chairmen elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have been restricted from entering the local government secretariats till date.
It was learnt that some PDP elected chairmen attempted to enter the local government secretariats, but they were prevented by security agents who were allegedly acting on instructions from “above”
Weeks after the judgment was delivered, Osun Defender reliably gathered that the APC elected chairmen are still in control of the local government across the state.
The development has caused confusion in many of the Local Government Areas in the state.
However, it was not certain whether or not the APC appealed the judgment of the Federal High Court, Osogbo on the tenure elongation but the medium can confirm that APC elected chairmen are in control of the councils.
