Abure Re-Elected As LP National Chairman Despite NLC’s Opposition
Mr Julius Abure has been re-elected as the National Chairman of the Labour Party for a second term by a unanimous affirmation of delegates.
His re-election came despite the opposition of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
NLC under the leadership of Comrade Joe Ajaero, had called for Abure’s resignation as party chairman.
The NLC also demanded the immediate constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organise a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.
Also, the NLC told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise Abure as the party chairman.
But Abure was declared the winner by the Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu, during the party’s national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State.
