Anambra Govt Denies Plan To Arrest Women Without Bras, Pants
The Anambra State Government has dismissed claims that its security outfit plans to arrest women not wearing bras or pants, calling the report “false and malicious.”
In a statement on Monday, Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, refuted the claims circulating on social media.
“The attention of the Anambra State Government has been drawn to a malicious and entirely false information circulating on social media platforms, claiming that ‘Anambra State Government begins arrest of girls who walk around without bras and pants before they start walking naked.’
“We wish to categorically state that this information is not only false but also mischievous and calculated to mislead the public and paint the state government in a bad light.
“The Anambra State Government, under the leadership of Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, remains committed to protecting the fundamental human rights and dignity of all citizens.
“Although the government encourages decent dressing for all, it does not interfere with citizens’ personal choices of clothing or undergarments, as such matters are private and protected by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The government urged the public to disregard the “fake news” and avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary panic.
It added that the administration remains focused on “critical issues such as security, human capital development, and economic transformation.”
This clarification follows reports that a security outfit in the state had announced plans to arrest women seen without bras or knickers in public.
The announcement, made through a public address system and shared in a viral video, purportedly claimed that the directive was from the governor.
