EFCC Quizzes Ex-Minister Kennedy-Ohanenye Over Alleged N138m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday interrogated former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over her alleged involvement in the misappropriation of N138,413,253.89.

Ohanenye, who was removed from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last year, was accused of violating procurement procedures and diverting public funds while disbursing the 2023 budgeted funds for the ministry.

She arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11 a.m. and remained in custody as questioning continued late into the night.

Sources within the EFCC revealed that funds earmarked for the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative were allegedly diverted for personal use.

“Investigations by the EFCC showed that funds donated nike ja 1 scratch for the funding of the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative were diverted for her self-enrichment. Investigations are still ongoing. She has not been admitted to administrative bail,” the source said.

In July 2024, a House of Representatives committee summoned Ohanenye over an alleged N1.5 billion debt owed to contractors by the ministry.

The committee, led by Kafilat Ogbara, accused the ministry of awarding contracts outside the 2023 budget and diverting funds meant for contractor nike air monarch black jcpenney sale today price payments.

In an interview on June 5, Ogbara had said there were “many petitions” against the former minister.
