The Enugu chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has thrown its weight behind Peter Obi’s alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ignoring threats of sanctions from the Julius Abure-led faction of the party.

In a letter dated July 3 and signed by Kingsley Ugwu, the acting state chairman, the Enugu LP announced its formal support for the opposition coalition, stating that the move was in pursuit of national development and unity.

“We are pleased to announce that Labour Party Enugu State has officially embraced the coalition to contribute to the movement for achieving a better Nigeria, working together with our principal, Peter Obi,” the letter read.

Ugwu explained that the decision was taken in the interest of collaboration and a shared vision for progress.

“As part of this effort, we are excited to announce that we can now begin advertising the ADC agenda across all 160 wards in Enugu State,” he added.

He said the coalition would help promote community engagement and foster a common agenda among like-minded political actors.

“We believe that by working together, we can build a brighter future for our state and our nation,” he stated.

Peter Obi, along with other notable political figures, was present at the unveiling of the ADC-led coalition in Abuja on Wednesday.

Those in attendance included former APC national chairman John Oyegun, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, former Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Senate President David Mark, who now serves as interim national chairman of the ADC.
