A man identified as Blessing Fubara, snr, has obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Fubara Snr, who is a development strategist, urban renewal consultant, and grassroots mobilizer with experience in public sector advisory and youth empowerment initiatives, obtained his forms at the NDC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

Though both Blessing and Governor Siminalayi Fubara hail from the same Opobo/Nkoro local government area of Rivers, it was not ascertained if they are directly related.

NDC chairman in Rivers State, Hon. Success Jack, who confirmed that Blessing Fubara is one of its governorship aspirants, said he could not say if he is related to the incumbent Governor.

He said: “Yes, he (Blessing Fubara Snr) obtained his expression of interest form yesterday in Abuja, and we are prepared and still preparing to win not only governorship election, but all the elections in Rivers State, come 2027 general election.”

Fubara’s moves in NDC have already generated political reactions and growing attention within the state’s political space.

He defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC about two weeks ago.

During his defection, Fubara, was received by the national leader of NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson and other stakeholders of the party in Abuja.

He had said that his decision to join the NDC, which he referred to as a moving train is in the interest of the people of Rivers state, adding that the soul of Rivers state is at stake as the people get set to take back their state in 2027.

Blessing Fubara Snr. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development and Adult Education, he is the MD/CEO of D’Consiglories LLC.

He is a development strategist, urban renewal consultant, and grassroots mobilizer with experience in public sector advisory and youth empowerment initiatives.

While supporters of the NDC in the state described the emergence of Blessing Fubara Snr as the beginning of a new political movement, critics insist the real test will lie in the party’s ability to convert growing public attention into a formidable statewide structure capable of competing with the entrenched machinery of larger parties.
