How We Were Forced To Choose Between Aregbesola And Oyetola – Former Ede North LG Chair

A former chairman of Ede North Local Government, Hon. Mukaila Uthman, has shed more light on the origin of the crisis that led to the exit of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his loyalists from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
Mukaila, who spoke on the formation of The Osun Progressives (TOP), a caucus within the APC which has now metamorphosed to Omoluabi Progressives, gave the details while featuring on a political programme tagged Gbagede Oro on Honor FM, Ibadan.
The former chairman also revealed how the association of local government chairmen were instructed not to wish Aregbesola during his birthday celebration.
Mukaila said the crisis began when local government chairmen were instructed to take sides between Aregbesola and former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, just six months to the end of their tenure.

“Let me tell you the origin of this issue. Aregbesola was not behind the formation of The Omoluabi Progressives (TOP). We were behind TOP and the origin is this.
“When we were serving as local council chairmen, less than six months to the end of our tenure, we were told to pick our favorites between Aregbesola and Oyetola. Then, Kolapo Alimi who is now the Commissioner for Information in the present administration was part of TOP.”
According to Mukaila, the situation worsened after the Supreme Court judgment that declared the APC the winner of the 2018 governorship election nike dunk high cargo khaki white. Kolapo Alimi, a member of The Omoluabi Progressives (TOP) and the current Commissioner for Information, was part of the legal team that worked on the case but was not paid. When he returned, Oyetola told him that he would not be part of the administration because of his loyalty to Aregbesola.

When we came back from the supreme, Alimi was part of the legal team that work to ensure we won the supreme judgment but he was not paid, he was the APC lawyer. Mukaila quoted Alimi as saying, “But we were all part of Aregbesola’s administration, and which led to your emergence.”
Mukaila added, “Judging from the situation, we all came together, we are seven in number, and went to Aregbesola in Lagos.”
According to him, Aregbesola was not the architect of the crisis but Oyetola who want some party stalwarts loyal to Aregbesola gone by all means.

“Aregbesola used to celebrate his birthdays on May 23rd or 25th, we were instructed not to wish him happy birthday. We were all saying Ogbeni Aregbesola is doing too much but how many people can take the insult that was meted on Aregbesola, he queried.
