If PDP Makes Politicians, Who Has It Made In Lagos? – Wike Tackles George

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to recent criticisms from Chief Bode George, challenging the elder statesman’s claim that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made him who he is politically.

George had last week slammed Wike for overseeing the sealing of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, calling it “sacrilegious” and accusing the minister of turning against the party that gave him a national platform.

“This is the party that brought you to life,” George had said.

But speaking during a media parley on Monday, Wike dismissed the claim, insisting that individuals, not parties, build political relevance.

“Bode George said PDP made me. I agree. But the truth is, parties don’t make people popular — individuals make parties win elections,” Wike said.

He threw a jab at George’s influence in Lagos, asking, “If it’s true that the party makes people, who has PDP made in Lagos?”

Wike pointed out that since 1999, the PDP has failed to produce any significant political figure in the National Assembly from Lagos.

“Not one assembly seat, not one House of Reps member, not one Senate seat. Yet you’re talking to someone who has worked tirelessly to keep the PDP relevant in both his state and at the national level,” he said.

Wike’s response comes amid deepening rifts within the PDP, as other leaders like Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have also been linked to disagreements with him.
