JAMB Considers Exclusive Phone Sims For UTME Candidates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has concluded arrangements to partner with the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) to issue the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates with customised phone Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) for the UTME registration.
This was revealed by JAMB in its Weekly Bulletin, stating that the use of the customised SIM which will be introduced in 2025, is aimed at addressing the perennial challenges of theft or missing SIM.
It was stated that the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this during a visit of a delegation of the West Africa Civil Societies Forum (WACSOF) to his office.
Oloyede disclosed that the customised SIMs would only be used for UTME registration and would be accessible to only the parents with an expiry date of five years.
He expressed confidence that the new SIM regime would solve the avalanche of problems associated with candidates’ registration.
He assured the coalition of civil society groups of the commitment of the Board to making its UTME registration not only seamless but also more flexible and user-friendly.
He expressed the determination of the Board to continually come up with ways of leveraging otate-of-the-art technology to render efficient service delivery to Nigerians.
Osun Defender recalls that during the 2024 UTME, candidates complained bitterly about their inability to register for the UTME process due to a change of SIM card.
Some other candidates were not able to check their results because they lost the SIM card they used to rregisterfor the examination.
