Lakurawa Terrorists Kill 13 Vigilantes In Kebbi
At least 13 vigilantes were killed in a brutal attack by suspected Lakurawa gunmen in Morai village, Augie Local Government Area, Kebbi State, on Sunday.
A local source, Alhaji Augie, reported that the vigilantes, acting on intelligence about a potential attack, had taken cover in nearby bushes.
The assailants, who had attempted to rustle a herd of cattle, were confronted by the vigilantes in an ambush, with the aim of recovering the stolen cattle and repelling the attackers.
However, the vigilantes were unaware that the attackers had already surrounded them.
As they moved to engage, the assailants opened fire, killing at least 13 vigilantes instantly.
The village where the incident occurred is about three kilometres from Augie’s own village.
Six bodies have been recovered and buried in line with Islamic customs, while the search for the remaining victims continues.
Efforts to contact the Kebbi State Police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, have been unsuccessful.
