The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lampooned the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over its persistent disregard for the rule of law, describing its actions as the “height of impunity.”

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the PDP criticised the APC for misleading the public about the status of the sacked YES or NO local government officials.

The party asserted that the APC’s fresh application at the Court of Appeal in Akure is clear evidence that its members were never reinstated, contrary to the narrative it has been pushing.

“At the beginning of this controversy, we warned the public that the Osun APC was lying about a nonexistent court reinstatement,” Hon. Bisi stated. “Now, the same APC has returned to the Court of Appeal, seeking to revive an appeal that upheld the invalidation of the October 15, 2022, local government election. If they were truly reinstated, why are they back in court?”

The PDP also accused the APC of trying to exploit the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Prince Lateef Fagbemi, to justify its refusal to obey a valid and subsisting court judgment.

According to Bisi, all legal documents confirming the nullification of the controversial election and the subsequent conduct of the February 22, 2025, local government election were widely circulated across traditional and social media platforms.

“It is unacceptable for the APC to attempt to drag the AGF’s office into its mess,” Bisi said. “The Constitution does not grant the AGF the power to override a court judgment, and no amount of political maneuvering can change that.”

Describing the APC’s actions as a desperate attempt to seize power through illegitimate means, the PDP chairman warned that such recklessness posed a serious threat to democracy.

He called on all democratic stakeholders, civil society groups, and well-meaning Nigerians to resist any attempt to undermine the judicial process.

“A party that is struggling to revive a dismissed appeal cannot, at the same time, claim that its members have been reinstated,” Bisi argued. “This is a blatant attack on democracy, and we must not allow such impunity to thrive.”

With the legal battle still ongoing, the Osun PDP reaffirmed its commitment to upholding democratic principles and urged the judiciary to ensure that justice is served.
