Ahead of tomorrow’s controversial local government election in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement from 5 am to 5 pm on Saturday.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed in a statement said the directive was sequel to the statewide council polls.

Rasheed said, “Governor Adeleke who reiterated his commitment to peace and security said the movement restriction is necessary to prevent importation of hoodlums into the state amidst local elections.

“He therefore directed security agencies to enforce the restriction and only allow voters and accredited media and civil society organizations for the continued peace and security of Osun State.”

Earlier in the day, an Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa, ordered the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, (OSSIEC), to proceed with tomorrow’s election.

The court had declared that positions of local government chairmen and councillors in all the 30 local government areas and the area office in Osun State are currently vacant, hence the need for Saturday’s election.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that a statement by Oladele Bamiji, Media Director of the PDP said the order was given by Justice A.A. Aderibigbe, sequel to a suit brought before the court by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the political parties participating in the election.
