LG Takeover: Hold Osun APC Responsible for Today’s Killings – PDP Nat’l Pub Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating violence and killings in Osun State, following the lingering crisis over the sacked local government chairmen and councillors.
In a statement issued on Monday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, condemned what it described as a desperate attempt by the APC to plunge the state into chaos.
The party warned the ousted council officials against any attempt to force their way back into office, stating that such a move would be met with dire consequences.
The PDP maintained that the Court of Appeal’s ruling had nullified the local government election conducted by the former Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, and that the sacked officials had no legal standing to return to office.
“It is clear that the APC’s defiance of constitutional provisions and due process in conducting the local government election has led to its present predicament,” the statement read.
“The attempt to impose their members as local government chairmen and councillors was illegal from the outset and was bound to fail.”

The party accused the APC of resorting to violence and misinformation in an attempt to destabilise the state. It alleged that APC-sponsored thugs were responsible for the killing of some youths during the crisis and called on security agencies to act swiftly.
“Our party strongly condemns the violence and the killing of innocent youths today by APC thugs. We call on the Inspector General of Police to investigate this heinous act and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Ologunagba stated.
The PDP also urged the APC to refrain from dragging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government into the issue, stressing that local government elections fall under the jurisdiction of the state government.
“If the APC is as popular as it claims, it should be preparing for the fresh local government election as scheduled by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), rather than instigating violence and attempting to subvert the will of the people,” the statement added.
The party called on residents of Osun to remain law-abiding and support Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration in delivering “monumental life-enhancing projects and programmes” to the people.
