Six Months After, Kano Hisbah’s Facebook Page Still Hacked As Nude Posts Continue

Six months after hackers took control of its official Facebook page, the Kano State Hisbah Board remains unable to regain access, as explicit content continues to flood the platform, drawing widespread criticism from the public.
The Hisbah Board, known for enforcing Sharia law and upholding moral discipline in Kano, first reported the hacking incident in August 2024.
Despite assurances from the board’s leadership that efforts were underway to recover the page, it remains under the control of unknown individuals, who persistently upload inappropriate materials contradicting the agency’s moral stance.
Confirming the situation to newsmen, the Commander General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, urged the public to assist in reporting the compromised page to Meta.
He stated that the board’s ICT department had been working with Facebook’s parent company to rectify the breach, but progress has been slow.

“We are aware that our Facebook page has been hacked, and explicit content is being shared on it. We have been in contact with Meta since the incident occurred, and we are still making efforts to reclaim it,” Daurawa said.
Similarly, the Board’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Auwalu Ado Sheshe, disclosed that discussions with Meta were ongoing.
The Head of the ICT department also confirmed that the agency had yet to open a new Facebook page due to concerns over the proliferation of fake accounts impersonating Hisbah on social media.
The prolonged delay in reclaiming the page has sparked a wave of backlash from the public, with many questioning how an agency tasked with enforcing morality has been unable to secure its digital presence.
Some critics have taken to social media to mock Hisbah, highlighting the irony of its situation.
A Kano-based lawyer, Manir Faisal, expressed dismay over the board’s inability to swiftly resolve the issue.
“Subhanallah! What I just saw on the Facebook page of Kano Hisbah Board is disturbing. Without any doubt, that page has been hacked, and I don’t know for how long. Please, those close to Hisbah should inform them to immediately initiate the recovery of the account before it’s too late,” he wrote on social media.
