Nasarawa APC Chairman Aliyu Bello Suspended For Alleged Anti-Party Activities
Aliyu Bello, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, has been suspended by the party’s leadership in his ward over alleged anti-party activities.
Ibrahim Ilyasu, Chairman of APC in Gayam Ward, Lafia Local Government Area, announced the suspension at a press briefing on Tuesday.
He said the suspension was a unanimous decision by party officials at the ward level, citing a violation of Article 21 of the APC constitution.
“In line with the powers vested in us under Article 21 (D) (i)-(iii) of the APC constitution, and after extensive consultations with stakeholders, we have resolved to suspend Hon. Aliyu Bello from the APC with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Ilyasu alleged that Bello openly supported and campaigned for a candidate of another political party.
He said Bello’s actions violated Article 21 (0), (ii), and (vii) of the APC constitution, which prohibits conduct that brings the party into hatred, contempt, ridicule, or disrepute.
According to him, Bello’s suspension takes immediate effect, and he has been asked to stop presenting himself as a member or official of the APC in Gayam Ward.
“Your actions have embarrassed the party, undermined our collective efforts, and breached party loyalty and discipline. We urge you to desist from parading yourself as a party member or official pending the conclusion of this process,” Ilyasu said.
Earlier in the week, Otaru Douglas, the APC Publicity Secretary in Nasarawa State, had claimed that Bello’s suspension was part of a planned and sponsored move by a governorship aspirant in the state.
