The Omoluabi Progressives, under the leadership of Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Hon. AbdulRauf Adekunle Adeniji, popularly known as Kongo, who passed away under unclear circumstances in January 2025.

In a condolence message on Saturday, signed by the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Abosede Oluwaseun, the political group described the late Adeniji as a man of honour and great political influence who served meritoriously during his lifetime.

The statement highlighted Adeniji’s past roles, including his tenure as Chairman of Ife Central Local Government under Chief Bisi Akande’s administration during the Alliance for Democracy era.

He also served as a member of the O’School Board during the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Director General of the Alhaji Moshood Adeoti ‘SHEU’ Gubernatorial Campaign Committee in 2018, and until his death, was the Director of Administration at the APC National Secretariat.

The group lamented the deteriorating state of security in Nigeria, blaming it for the loss of the respected politician.

“Despite our political differences in the latter part of his life, Ẹ̀gbọ́n Kunle was a good person who had the aura of Omoluabi all over him,” the statement read.

They extended their condolences to his family and the people of Ile-Ife, calling on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The group also appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts to combat the rising insecurity in the country.

“May Allah SWT accept his return and grant him Aljanat Fridaus,” the statement concluded.
