Osun PCRC Condemns Protest Against CP, says It Is Politically Motivated
The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Osun State Command, has condemned what it described as a “staged protest” against the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
PCRC said the protest was allegedly sponsored by self-serving and politically motivated elements within the state’s political class.
The Chairman of the PCRC Caretaker Committee in the state, Badmus Saburi, in a statement on Monday, said the protest was not a genuine expression of civic concern but a calculated attempt to malign the image of a police chief whose only offence was upholding professionalism.
“The so-called protest was nothing but a calculated attempt to malign the image of a highly professional and result-oriented Commissioner of Police whose only ‘offence’ is his refusal to succumb to political pressure, compromise professional ethics, or allow the Nigeria Police Force to be used as a tool for partisan interests,” Saburi said.
The PCRC chairman noted that since the Commissioner of Police assumed duty in Osun, the Command has recorded improved security coordination, proactive policing and stronger community engagement across the state.
Saburi said the committee had closely monitored the conduct and activities of the Commissioner of Police and could attest to his commitment to fairness, justice, transparency and protection of lives and property.
“He has remained committed to fairness, justice, transparency, and the protection of lives and property,” he stated.
The committee further commended the officers and men of the Osun State Police Command for the mature, disciplined and professional manner in which they managed the protest.
The PCRC chairman also lauded the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, for ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism, accountability, operational efficiency and public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
“The current police leadership has consistently emphasised integrity, truth, and service to the nation above personal or political interests,” he said.
Consequently, the Osun State PCRC passed a Vote of Confidence on the Commissioner of Police for his outstanding performance, courage, impartiality and unwavering commitment to the security and stability of the state.
