PDP Kicks As Osun APC Petitions DSS, Police Over LG Crisis
The local government leadership crisis rocking Osun State took a fresh turn on Monday as the All Progressives Congress petitioned the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged plot by the Peoples Democratic Party to unleash violence across council secretariats in the state.
The petition, dated June 16, 2025, and signed by the APC State Legal Adviser, Adegoke Ogunsola, on behalf of the party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, accused the PDP of recruiting armed thugs to attack political functionaries loyal to the opposition party.
Among those named in the petition were the PDP State Chairman, Sunday Bisi; the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi; the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Hassim Abioye; and the Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed.
According to Lawal, the plot was allegedly perfected to forcibly eject APC-backed officials from local government secretariats, despite a subsisting court ruling in their favour.
He recalled the violent attack of February 17, 2025, which claimed the life of Remi Abass, former chairman of Irewole Local Government, stressing that any recurrence would be catastrophic.
He urged security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation and deploy operatives to forestall further bloodshed.
Reacting swiftly, the PDP described the petition as mischievous and an attempt by the APC to provoke a breakdown of law and order to justify a call for emergency rule in the state.

The party’s spokesperson, Oladele Bamiji, accused the opposition of orchestrating fear to mask their own agenda.
He insisted that Governor Adeleke had already directed elected council chairmen from the 22 February poll to stay away from council premises to avoid conflict, emphasising that the state government remains committed to peace and legal redress.
“Our governor has chosen the path of peace. He would never support any action that would lead to violence or the loss of lives. The people of Osun know where the truth lies,” he said.
Meanwhile, a heavy presence of armed police operatives was noticed around council secretariats in Osogbo and other local government areas on Monday, as tension simmered over which party should assume control of the grassroots administration.
The crisis deepened shortly after Justice Peter Obiorah-led panel ruled on the contentious local government election, fuelling renewed rivalry between the ruling PDP and the opposition APC.
