Police Drop N1.3bn Fraud Charges Against Gbolahan Obanikoro, Others

Charges against Gbolahan Obanikoro and four others over an alleged N1.3 billion fraud have been withdrawn by the Nigeria Police Force, leading nike revolution 7 the Federal High Court in Lagos to strike out the case.
The case was initially adjourned to February 27, 2025, for arraignment before the police filed a notice of withdrawal under Section 108(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, without providing an official reason.
Mr. Obanikoro was accused of conspiring with four others to fraudulently obtain N1.3 billion from Access Bank under false pretenses.
The charges, filed in November 2024, alleged that the defendants used a property at 40B Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, as collateral for a loan obtained by Balmoral International Limited from the now-defunct Diamond Bank in 2013.
Access Bank, which later merged with Diamond Bank, claimed the loan was not repaid and accused Mr. Obanikoro and others of financial misconduct.

In a statement, Obanikoro said, “The police dropped the charges after discovering that Access Bank attempted to appropriate my company’s property as collateral for a loan to a third party, without my knowledge or consent.”

“My company, M.O.B. Integrated Services, provided the property as collateral at the request of Balmoral’s Managing Director, Adejare Adegbenro, who assured us that he would fulfill all loan conditions, including repayment.”
