Samsung Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee Dies At 63
Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee has died from cardiac arrest at the age of 63, a spokesperson for the South Korean tech giant confirmed on Tuesday.
Born in 1962, Han had been overseeing Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses since 2022.
He was named Samsung Electronics vice chairman and co-CEO in the same year, alongside Jun Young-Hyun, who heads the company’s semiconductor business.
In an internal message obtained by CNN, Samsung paid tribute to Han, stating that he dedicated over 37 years of his life to leading the company’s TV business to global dominance.
The message highlighted his contributions to the growth of Samsung’s electronics and appliances businesses, despite challenging market conditions.
“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the company stated.
No announcement has been made regarding Han’s successor, according to the Samsung spokesperson.
Last week, Han chaired an annual investor meeting where he apologised for Samsung’s stock performance and warned of a challenging 2025 due to economic uncertainties in major markets.
He also revealed that the company was determined to pursue “meaningful” mergers and acquisitions despite regulatory hurdles and national interests affecting semiconductor deals.
Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Inha University.
Before leading the electronics and mobile division, he was in charge of Samsung’s display operations.
