A leading socio-cultural group in Akwa Ibom, Afe Annang has rejected the ‘mere’ suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling for her recall or replacement by Kogi Central.

The group also vowed to resist any attempt to unseat Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking at a press conference in Abak on Thursday, the group’s leader, His Majesty Obong Blaise Awakama, insisted that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions were inappropriate for a senator.

“We are not satisfied with only her suspension. Her constituency should recall her or replace her. She needs proper orientation,” he said.

The controversy stems from a Senate seating arrangement change that Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly found offensive, accusing Akpabio of discrimination and sexual harassment.

Awakama dismissed the allegations as a political plot.

“How did a routine seating adjustment—due to cross-carpeting—turn into a sexual harassment issue?” he asked.

He stressed that Akpabio represents the entire nation and deserves respect.

“We are proud of him. No female senator should be used to tarnish his image. If there’s a plot to remove him, we won’t stand idly by,” he warned.

Osun Defender reported that Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months on Thursday after the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions found her guilty of misconduct.

The suspension followed her allegations against Akpabio, which are now the subject of litigation.

“A false harassment claim must not be weaponised for political gains,” Awakama added. “A word is enough for the wise.”
