Two Arraigned For Assault On Police Officer In Osun

Two men were arraigned on Monday, April 29, before a State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, for allegations bordering on conspiracy and assault on a police official.

The defendants, Sikiru Morenikeji, 50 and Saheed Morenikeji, 18, had appeared before the presiding Magistrate, Dr. Olusegun Ayilara, on five counts preferred against them by the police.

The counts included conspiracy, assault, attempted murder, resisting arrest, and breach of public peace.

Giving further details, the prosecutor, Mr. Elisha Olusegun told the court that the defendants, alongside others now at large, conspired to assault one Inspector Tosin Akibo and inflicted injury on his left leg.

He said, ” The defendants committed the offence on April 26, 2025, around Okinni Area, Osogbo. They assaulted Mr Tosin, attached to Dada Estate Divisional Headquarter by pushing him into a drainage. He was hit with a stick on his left leg and he sustained a fracture.”

According to the prosecutor, the offenses committed contravened sections 516, 145, 355, 320(1) and 249(d) of the Criminal Code of Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

After their charges had been read, the defendants pleaded not guilty.

The case was adjourned till May 29, 2025 for commencement of trial.
