Accord Party Members Protest Against Return Ticket For Rep Member
Members of the Accord Party in Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency on Tuesday staged a protest at the state secretariat of the party in Osogbo against the reported emergence of Hon. Soji Adetunji as the party’s representative candidate for the area ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The protesters, who stormed the secretariat with placards carrying various inscriptions expressing their dissatisfaction and rejection of what they described as an “imposition” of candidate on the people of the constituency.
Some of the placards read: “No to Imposition in IBO Federal Constituency,” “We Want Popular Candidate,” “Accord Must Respect Internal Democracy,” and “IBO Constituency Deserves Better Representation.”
The party faithful alleged that the process that produced Hon. Soji Adetunji who is the current lawmaker representing the federal constituency, lacked transparency, fairness, and broad consultation with stakeholders across the three local governments that make up the federal constituency.
In a video obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, one of those who led the demonstration stated that members of the constituency were united in their opposition to the candidacy, insisting that the party leadership should immediately reverse the decision in the interest of peace, unity, and electoral success.
According to him, the people of Ifelodun, Boripe, and Odo-Otin Local Governments are demanding a credible, acceptable, and grassroots-oriented candidate who truly understands the needs and aspirations of the constituency.
The protesters further warned that failure by the party leadership to address their grievances could lead to mass defections and an internal crisis capable of affecting the party’s fortunes in the constituency.
