As Campaign Council Demands Suspect’s Transfer To CID

The Accord Party in Osun State has alleged that political thugs allegedly working for the All Progressives Congress shot three chiefs in Okinni on Saturday night.

The party said the victims are receiving treatment at the emergency ward of the Osun State Teaching Hospital.

According to the State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the attack targeted individuals known to be Accord sympathisers.

Akande said the traditional ruler of Papanla in Okinni, Oba Abdulmaruf Ameen, confirmed the incident after visiting the hospital.

“According to the royal father, gunmen stormed Okinni around 9pm and began shooting sporadically. The three chiefs are said to be in critical condition,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the Imole Campaign Council has applauded the police for apprehending one Akilapa, who allegedly led the charge against the chiefs.

The campaign council, which condemned the attack in a statement by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, demanded that the arrested suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, instead of the anti-cultism unit.

The statement said: “We call the attention of the Inspector General of Police to the fresh attack on our members at Okinni. We commend the police for arresting the notorious APC thug, Akilapa. But there is something fishy about the handling of the matter.”

The council insisted that the attacks in Okinni, Esa Oke, Ilobu and other areas were not related to cultism.

“Why is the attack on Okinni being treated as a cult clash. This is indirectly shielding the suspect,” the statement added.

It concluded: “We demand that Akilapa be moved to the state CID for thorough investigation.”

Efforts to get the reactions of the Osun APC and the Osun State Police Command proved abortive as of the time of this report.
