I’m A Bonafide APC Member, Never Directed Anyone To Join Accord – Omisore

A former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has reaffirmed that he remains a bonafide member of the party, dismissing claims that he directed any of his supporters to defect to the Accord Party in Osun State.

Omisore made the clarification amid reports that some of his loyalists dumped the APC for the Accord Party following the party’s governorship primary.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that the immediate past APC National Secretary had contested the party’s governorship ticket but lost to Bola Oyebamiji, the APC’s consensus candidate for the August 15 governorship election. Following the outcome of the primary, some of Omisore’s supporters announced their defection to the Accord Party.

Speaking on Tuesday at the monthly meeting of the Osun APC Elders’ Caucus in Ilobu, Omisore reiterated his commitment to the APC, stressing that his priority is to ensure the party’s victory in the forthcoming election.

Although Omisore attended the meeting in person, his address was delivered by the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa.

Famurewa said none of those who defected could truthfully claim that Omisore encouraged or instructed them to leave the APC.

“Nobody can claim that Senator Iyiola Omisore sat down with him and told him that he had left the party. Such claims are mere insinuations being circulated by some people. You can see him here today, planning with other party leaders on how to win the next election. As far as I am concerned, Senator Iyiola Omisore remains a bonafide member of the APC and a member of the Osun APC Elders’ Caucus (Igbimo Agba),” he said.

Famurewa added that members of Omisore’s political structure joined the APC as individuals and were therefore free to make personal political decisions.

“I happen to be the Director-General of his campaign group. We all joined the party as individuals, not as a group. Those who left did so on their own because political parties operate on the principle of freedom of association. Some of them shared their grievances with me, and I made every effort to persuade them to remain in the APC.

“To the best of my knowledge, Senator Omisore never gave any instruction for anyone to leave the APC. If he had any directive to issue, he would have passed it through me, as that is how we operate.

“I appeal to all APC members to come out en masse on election day, vote for the party, and ensure that their votes count. They should not allow anyone to harass or intimidate them,” he said.
