The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has once again come under scrutiny as the first semester examinations for the 2023/2024 academic session concluded amidst frustration and widespread student dissatisfaction.
Rather than a smooth academic calendar, the semester was reportedly air jordan 4 mars blackmon 2024 riddled with poor planning, inadequate lecture periods, and sudden exam extensions that threw students into disarray.
Initially, the university had announced that exams would run from February 17 to March 8. However, without prior warning, the institution extended the period by another week due to the local government election, forcing students who had already made travel arrangements to remain on campus longer than expected.
This last-minute decision caused undue hardship, with many students running out of food, facing accommodation struggles, and experiencing heightened stress levels.
“I had already planned my journey home, only for them to announce an extension till March 15. It was frustrating because I had almost exhausted my provisions,” lamented Olayemi Adesope, a Part 3 student.
Adding to the frustration was the chaotic organisation of general courses, which saw thousands of students struggling with dense queues at the ICT Centre just to sit for exams.
Oluwarotimi Oluwafunmilayo, another Part 3 student, described the experience as a nightmare.
He said, “The queue at the ICT Centre was unbearable. We were pushed around like we were in a market. By the time I entered the exam hall, I was already exhausted and had lost concentration.”
Despite repeated complaints over the years, it was reported that OAU management has failed to address these logistical issues, leaving students to fend for themselves under increasingly difficult conditions.
Many students also decried the inadequate lecture periods, which left them struggling to grasp course materials before being thrust into exams.
A student who preferred to remain anonymous highlighted the unfairness of the situation, particularly for non-residential students.
He said, “Having Buy Women's Boots Red Lunar Footwear Online , jordan air jordan 1 mid crimson tint sneakers item , AspennigeriaShops to catch a 7 a.m. lecture is nearly impossible for those of us who don’t live in hostels on campus. The school should either provide better scheduling or offer more accommodation spaces. Hopefully, this will be addressed next semester after the Students’ Union raised concerns.”
