Nigerian music legend, Peter Okoye, one half of the legendary music duo P-Square, has taken the stand in a legal case against his twin brother, Jude Okoye, who is accused of money laundering and diverting royalties worth N1.38bn, $1m, and £34,537.59.

The trial, being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is ongoing at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

During his testimony, Peter revealed that Jude secretly set up a company, Northside Music Ltd, under the name of his wife, which was allegedly used to divert the royalties of the P-Square duo.

He explained that Jude and his wife were the only directors, with his wife owning 80% and Jude holding 20%.

Peter’s testimony was preceded by a revealing post on his Instagram, on Tuesday, where he spoke candidly about his experiences with family betrayal.

“Love doesn’t manipulate. Don’t let ‘family’ be the reason you’re drowning Jordan Bordeaux shirt match Black tee Retro 6 in silence. I did – for over 20 years and it almost cost me everything. But now I know barron trump height tall nikes melania donald trump better – love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family doesn’t steal from you.”

He also expressed his decision to prioritise his mental health, saying, “Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all. Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you, or ignore your pain. My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive.”

The legal battle is the latest chapter in a longstanding rift within the Okoye family, which began in 2015 and led to a public split in 2017.

Though the brothers briefly reunited in 2021, tensions resurfaced in 2024. Paul Okoye, Peter’s twin brother, publicly defended Jude and accused Peter of masterminding the legal issues.

Peter, however, has denied involving Paul in the EFCC petition, stating that his grievances were solely with Jude and his wife.

The case will resume on June 4, 2025, for cross-examination.
